What counts as an airport rail link
IARO records rail that serves an airport: purpose-built expresses, metro and S-Bahn, long-distance and high-speed stations, and rail reached from the terminal by a published transit or bus connection. The public map shows operational passenger services. Planned schemes, construction, studies, cargo links and closed records are for current members.
Status labels
- Operational — a passenger service recorded as operational. This describes the type of record, not live running conditions or disruption.
- Planned / construction / study — not yet in passenger service.
- Cargo — freight rather than passengers.
- IARO Air-Rail Member — a current Air-Rail Member is linked as the organisation directly responsible for the displayed service. It is a membership label, not a quality ranking.
Sources and review
Records were imported from IARO’s earlier database and from IARO’s own public pages. Country outlines are Natural Earth (public domain). Coordinates are OurAirports (public domain) airport reference points, not station entrances. Each airport pin stores its coordinate source. A record’s “last reviewed” date records a check of its public overview, service classification and linked source. It is not a live timetable check or a review of all historical member notes. Many imported records still show as awaiting review; treat undated records as historical reference and confirm current details with the operator.
This is not journey planning
The database is a professional reference, not a live travel service. Routes, operators, fares, timetables and project status can change. Check current journey information with the relevant operator before travelling.
Corrections
Use the contact form. Include the airport or record, what is wrong, and a source. The Secretariat assesses corrections as time allows. Member operators can also propose updates to their own linked records; those stay in draft until staff approve them.
